CCC addressed
- Anticipate vulnerability, and communicate to the public (TOP CHALLENGE)
- Strategies choosing safe, resilient scenarios, and maintaining credibility
- Pre-plan a time-efficient, safe response, minimizing responder’s engagement
- Build doctrine for resilience in emergency services and societies
- Forecast and simulate complex scenarios
- Get a clear picture of the risk evolution
Scope, rationale, context: general description. Precise here if this technology is currently use (eg. company name or contact info) The urbanEXODUS software is an agent based, large-scale evacuation simulation modelling tool that allows incident managers to train, plan, prepare and mitigate large scale evacuation scenarios while taking into account the effects of hazards (e.g. wildfire, flood, chemical spills, etc). The urbanEXODUS software can be linked to C2 and Common Operational Picture systems to provide insights on the evacuation performance of an area allowing incident managers to take risk-informed decisions when planning evacuation procedures.

Short description of the solution. Technical details if relevant. Keywords.
Capable of representing human behaviour under a variety of hazards including their effect on the evacuating population, the urbanEXODUS variant of EXODUS, provides large-scale capabilities to support crisis managers to prepare for a likely disaster by examining a variety of plausible evacuation scenarios for the area of interest. The tool provides insights on the evacuation process and performance and allows for informed decisions to be taken during the response phase of a disaster.
urbanEXODUS is also used to develop novel educational programs that are used to improve community risk awareness and help build community resilience.
The group has a significant and successful track record in formulating large-scale trial protocols, conducting trials, collecting human-factors data and analysing such data to better understand human behaviour in order to improve existing evacuation modelling capabilities beyond the current state-of-the-art.
